abilities at a glance:

ethan is a werewolf. most, if not all, of his abilities fall under this umbrella! these include:

• being a direwolf (larger than your average wolf, smaller than your average house) once a month. he can control the shift and retains awareness whenever he does, but it requires more mental fortitude the closer he is to the full moon.
  
• enhanced senses (sight, sound, smell, taste) and reflexes (strength, constitution, speed). includes being able to sense the human (hunger, for example) and the not so human (magic). the strongest of his senses is smell, and he can easily identify separate people this way, making him great at tracking people down. this doesn't really extend to magic, as he can't differentiate between types or signatures.
  
• weaknesses include: silver scars him in a way he can't heal. to put him down for good, you have to put a silver stake right through his heart, or he'll find some way to come back. while he has a "slippery" mind, he has no outright defenses against telepathy or mind control. wolfblood is toxic to humans in large quantities, but does not turn them into werewolves, given that he was cursed and not born as one.

in addition, ethan is familiar with the taste and texture and rigor of magic, which in his world is called the Unseen Work. he knows it, but he cannot use it, shape it, learn it, or attune to it. them's the breaks!

also, he eats people. he can survive off normal food as a normal man, but the wolf won't be happy about that, and ignoring the urge is like an animal ignoring that it's hungry. sort of doesn't make much sense.
